“हहिंदी शिक्षण में अनुवाद का (अ)सहयोग” THE (DIS)HELP OF TRANSLATION IN HINDI LEARNING

These days the learners of any language get so much information on Internet regarding most of the natural languages. The availability of automatic translation tools has on the one hand made possible the translation in real time, these tools can be helpful for the learner sometimes, but not always. The translation tools are being used by the students of Hindi as a foreign language which helps in the learning of Hindi. The primary objective of this paper is to discuss the questions related to who, when and at what time should use online translation tool? How direct translation can create problems for the learner? In FLT each learner has its own process of acquisition and sometimes they need some special attention to improve the process of learning and if the attention is not paid at the early stage of learning, this may lead to the lack of motivation of learning Hindi and without motivation nothing can be acquired. By analysing the errors of the students, we do not only understand and improve the acquisition process of the learners, but it helps to understand the areas where the improvement is needed in the preparation of material as well as in the teaching process. In this paper, I’ll be analysing the texts written by the students of Hindi who are learning Hindi as a FL in Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon from A1 to B2 levels (as per the CEFR). Results will be later analysed and methods and didactics procedures will be suggested which would allow to reduce the presence of errors qualitatively and quantitatively. Our objective is to understand the various types of errors committed by the students and the reason behind them for example interference of mother tongue, interlanguage, various types of translations etc. Some of the examples in this regard:
